Located smack in the middle of Central Florida, Orlando offers so much more for retirees than simply Disney's Magical Kingdom, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and LegoLand. Sure, all of the above are great adventure parks to assure you are labeled the "fun grandparents" when the little ones come and visit. However, when considering the city you want to call home during your golden years, it is important to take into account all that goes into retirement, and we are certain Orlando will exceed your expectations.

For most seniors, the thought of shoveling snow or driving along icy streets can cause a bit of anxiety. Fortunately, those are not even afterthoughts for Orlandians. From October thru April the average temperature stays pretty much between 55-75 degrees. The summer months can get a bit warmer, mostly ranging in the 80's, although we do warn of heat waves in 90's. That being said, you won't have to worry about poor elements, nor lack of sunshine, as Central Florida averages between 7-12 hours of sunshine per day.

Local entertainment is always important to consider for retirees, and Orlando has no shortage of entertainment and activities for older adults; including over 170 golf courses, numerous wineries and breweries, ecotourism such as orange groves, kayaking, and hot springs, fantastic restaurants and local shopping, the renowned Harry P. Leu Botanical Gardens, and, not to mention, the Orlando Magic professional basketball team. Furthermore, when considering retirement, it is important that you are able to find a neighborhood that really feels like home. When it comes to safety, cost of living, and accessibility to the city center, you can't beat neighborhoods such as Lake Cherokee, South Orange, and South Eola.

It's no secret that senior citizens tend to require increased medical care and attention. Orlando Regional Medical Center, South Lake Hospital, and Florida Hospital Orlando all rank high in geriatric care. There are dozens of great home care agencies, providing both medical and non-medical services, with a broad spectrum of both national companies to local ma-and-pa agencies. Furthermore, for seniors who require a higher level of care and must relocate from their home to a skilled nursing facility or assisted living community, Orlando has wonderful care providers - making relocation practically stress-free.
