Additional Information

When a loved one is diagnosed with one of the many forms of “dementia”, including Alzheimer's, families face many complex and difficult choices. At some point, their loved one simply can no longer live at home, even with in-home care. The family must choose from among an increasingly broad spectrum of options for memory care that vary widely in cost, quality of care, physical aesthetic, and the manner in which staff engage with and care for their residents.

Most cognitively impaired individuals don't require the highly regimented care provided in many memory care settings. What they need is a place designed specifically for them, with an environment that feels warm like a home, not cold or commercial like a “facility.” At Barton House, we offer that home-like environment and a program of care that stresses individuality, engagement, and personal contact throughout the day.

Our philosophy of care is really quite simple: Focus on strengths, rather than weaknesses. Never stop trying to communicate. Recognize the individual, not the disease. Be kind, always.

We Provide Memory Care Tailored to Meet Individual Needs. We never forget that residents with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia are individuals first, with unique backgrounds, personalities and interests. Moreover, the progress of memory loss and related symptoms varies from person to person. A level of care which is exactly right for one person may well be totally inappropriate for another.

That's why we tailor the care of each resident to meet his or her specific needs. This highly personalized approach is made possible by our small size and unusually low ratio of residents to dedicated caregivers.

Daily Life at Barton House
At Barton House, we provide a variety of activities for our residents that are specifically tailored to engage seniors who suffer from dementia. We believe engagement helps residents retain their identity and independence as long as possible. Our programming starts after breakfast each morning and ends when our residents retire for the night. A Barton House day is filled with familiar daily activities, such as senior exercise, art, board games, music, music therapy, massage therapy, bingo, and many other activities. We even have Chaparral High schoolers come on over, they have a Barton House club just for us.

We also provide live entertainment three times a week, and our entertainers encourage resident participation. We know that a structured daily activity program, coupled with a high level of engagement with staff and fellow residents throughout the day, is one of the most powerful and effective interventions in memory care

What Makes Us Special
Barton House is an excellent choice for the family that feels their loved one will thrive best and be more comfortable in a home-like setting, rather than one that is more institutional. With an exceptionally low ratio of residents to caregivers, delicious (and nutritious) home cooked meals, and staff that are specifically trained to interact with and care for those who are cognitively impaired, Barton House provides the highest level of care in a setting that most closely resembles the homes our residents remembers and are use to.
